The Beginnings – Part 133: FOR YOUR EYES ONLY

I have a tentative day withPaloma to see THE ROAD WARRIOR movie on mom’s VCR. I willcall her later to confirm.
I had the strangest dreamlast night. I dreamed that my physiquewas so dramatically improved and I happened to run into Howard EdelsteinMD. He was kind of creepy towards me butwe managed to carry a conversation. Thedream continued via a new door of clouds and Paloma appeared as we discussedthe possibility of getting married. Iwas so happy. I liked her that much. I alsorecalled an announcement to my folks in the dream.
I said, “Mom and Dad…you’regoing to be grandparents in eight months.”
I woke up and all I knew isthat one thing is clear: Paloma loves tobe with me. I love being with her.
I had breakfast at mom anddad’s house again and went for a quick bike ride until it started to rain againas I was half way through the stretch of beach. I returned home and started to work out withsome inspiring music.
At 2:30PM Paloma called.
“I’m sorry I didn’t call you yesterday.”
“I’m sorry I didn’t call you yesterday.”
“It’s okay.”
“I was thinking about youwhen I was at the RUSTY PELICAN in Alameda. And especially when two girls left and said they were going toGALLAGHER’s.”
“That’s funny.”
“What have you been up to?”
It was almost as if sheknew something was up.
I was honest and said, “Iwas just with my friend, Steve, last night. We went out for some fish and then had yogurt for dessert.”
“Oh.”
“Do you want to see THE ROAD WARRIOR today?”
“Do you want to see THE ROAD WARRIOR today?”
She sighed, “I just gothome, so I’ll need to shower and I can talk to you later.”
“Okay,” I said, wonderingif that was her way of saying ‘no’.
At almost 3PM I wassurprised to hear the phone ring. Itwas Rick Clark.
Rick said, “HeyMike…because of YOU my Saturday was shot. I called you at around eight o’clock.”
I guess his plans didn’twork out last night but I was already gone. I didn’t say it aloud but it was his loss.
Rick said, “I feel like amud fight.”
I laughed, “That soundslike a FUN idea.”
“I ended up not doinganything on Friday or Saturday.”
I wasn’t sure if he waskidding or not but it was likely true. One can never tell. We mightcatch a flick sometime this week. Itcould work out for us on Tuesday. I hopeso.
Paloma was almost going tocome over tonight but she decided against it.
Paloma eased my mind bysaying, “We’ll get-together tomorrow.”
“I can’t wait.”
It won’t be a Blue Mondayafter all.
I went over to mom’s houseand my brothers were there. Tony, John, mom and I watched the James Bond film, FOR YOUR EYES ONLY. It was great. I left at around 11PM only to learn that Ihad missed out on another phone call from Paloma.
John and I watched ONCE ISNOT ENOUGH (based on the Jacqueline Susann book that I read and loved). It was time for bed after that. Yawn.
She sat in a state ofsuspended animation, her attention hovering in a gloaming world of halfthoughts and nagging fears.
